Lake and Pond Ice

One of the coolest things about cold winters is the lakes freeze up very well. Our first winter last year was not very cold, so the lakes and ponds did not freeze sold on the tops. This winter was much different, and the temperatures stayed below freezing for January. We got to walk on the "water" for quite a ways out, until you could hear that ominous cracking noise. Mom and Dad just didn't want to fall in.

I still don't know what the difference between a lake and a pond is, but this is the Mystic Lake, which is about the same size as Horn Pond. Po-tay-toe / Po-tah-toe.
